Parks and Lakes
History
Lake Leota was originally a mill pond, created in the 1840s by
a dam across Allen Creek. It acted as a reservoir for the mill race to power a
grain mill for several decades. And it provided boating, fishing, and
enjoyment for local residents.
For decades Lake Leota offered active recreation such as
swimming, boating, and fishing. And it provided passive opportunities for
enjoyment as the backdrop to the park’s picnic and camping grounds.
Lots of family and friends gather around at Lake Leota to go swimming in the Evansville pool, playing baseball, playing soccer, walk around the park.there are a lot of swings and slides for family and friends. There is a skate park, tennis and basketball courts. There are lots of family and friends events in the park like the Fourth of July, and pool parties, and rummage sale around town and the fireworks on the Fourth of July.
There are some small parks around town too like
Countryside Park, on Water Street. Franklin Park, at the corner of Main and South Union Street. Seminary Park, on South Fourth Street, near Church St.
Brzezinski Park, at the Corner of West Church and Crawford Streets. Wind Prairie Park, off South Second Street, near its junction with Old Hwy 92.
These parks are great places for family and friends to be with and spend time with.
